Malaysia reports 25 new COVID-19 cases

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia reported 25 new COVID-19 infections, the Health Ministry said on Friday, bringing the national total to 9,063.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that nine cases are imported and 16 are local transmissions.

At least 13 of the new local cases have been traced to an individual who returned from India in July, with this cluster being responsible for a total of 43 cases spread across three states so far.

Another 15 people have been released, bringing the total cured and discharged to 8,728 or 96.3 percent of all cases.

Of the remaining 210 active cases, two are being held in intensive care and one of those is in need of assisted breathing.

No new deaths have been reported, leaving the total deaths at 125. Enditem
