23.9 kg of heroin, stimulants seized in northwestern Myanmar

YANGON, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities seized a large haul of narcotic drugs including 23.9 kilograms of heroin and 87,750 stimulants in northwestern Sagaing region, according to the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) on Friday.

Acting on a tip-off, the confiscation was made by the joint anti-narcotic police in Pinlebu township on Wednesday.

Heroin worth over 2.3 billion kyats (over 1.7 million U.S. dollars) and stimulants worth 438.7 million kyats (325,000 U.S. dollars) were seized.

The township police filed a case against five suspects in connection with the case and further investigation was underway under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, the CCDAC said.

According to the President's Office, a total of 1,266 drug-related cases were registered across Myanmar, while 1,952 people were charged in connection with the cases as of July 25, since the formation of the Drug Activity Special Complaint Department on June 26, 2018. Enditem
