Kyrgyzstan records 425 new COVID-19 cases, total nearing 40,000

BISHKEK, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyzstan recorded 425 new COVID-19 cases Saturday, bringing the total number of infections to 39,587, according to the country's health ministry.

Among the new cases, 10 are medical workers, bringing the caseload of infected medical workers to 2,938, said Ainura Akmatova, head of the ministry's public health care department, during a daily news briefing.

Meanwhile, 517 more patients have recovered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 31,281, which accounts for 79 percent of the total infections, said Akmatova.

The country also recorded nine deaths from the coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the country's COVID-19 death toll to 1,460.

Currently, 6,914 COVID-19 patients are receiving treatment at hospitals.

Kyrgyzstan registered the first COVID-19 case on March 18. Enditem
