Afghan gov't registers 37 new COVID-19 positive cases

KABUL, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's Public Health Ministry has registered 37 new COVID-19 positive cases over the past 24 hours, totaling the number of patients infected with the virus to 37,106 in the country, said a statement of the ministry released on Sunday.

According to the statement, nine patients died due to the disease over the period, bringing the number of COVID-19 related deaths to 1,321 since the outbreak in February in Afghanistan.

A total of 87 patients have recovered over the past 24 hours, bringing the number of those recovered to 26,047 since February, the statement said.

The spread of novel coronavirus, according to the Afghan public health ministry, has been declining in the country over the past one month. Enditem
