COVID-19 death toll rises to 20 in Maldives

MALE, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The number of deaths caused by COVID-19 in the Maldives has risen to 20, local media reported here Wednesday.

A 67-year-old Maldivian male died while undergoing treatment at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in the capital Male on Tuesday, state media reported.

According to data from the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Maldives' first COVID-19 death occured on April 29. Since the beginning of the outbreak, 14 Maldivian nationals and 6 expatriates have died from the virus.

HPA data shows that the Maldives has 5,157 confirmed cases of COVID-19 so far, with 2,307 of these being active cases and 145 of those currently hospitalised for treatment. Enditem
