KUWAIT CITY, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait celebrated on Wednesday International Youth Day to showcase the "substantial" role of the youths at the local, national, and global levels.

At a press statement, Mohammad Al-Jabri, Kuwaiti minister of information and minister of state for youth affairs, said that the Kuwaiti government pays special attention to youths and supports them in various fields and levels by adopting a number of projects.

Kuwaiti youths have played an important role in helping the most needed institutions in the country in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, he said.

Conrad Lesa, United Nations resident coordinator in Kuwait, said that the vast majority of pressing challenges such as the COVID-19 outbreak, wars, hunger, civil unrest, and climate change requires concerted global actions, meaningful engagement and participation of young people.

"The young population is pivotal in curbing the spread of infections by being disciplined and complying with the recommendations of WHO and government authorities," he noted. Enditem
