Vietnam reports 21 new COVID-19 cases, 2 more deaths

HANOI, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam reported 21 new cases of COVID-19 infection on Saturday, bringing its total confirmed cases to 950 along with two more deaths from the disease, according to its Ministry of Health.

Five of the newly confirmed cases recently returned to Vietnam from abroad while the rest were recorded domestically in localities including central Da Nang city, central Quang Nam province and Hai Duong province, said the ministry.

These cases include those reportedly in contact with previously confirmed cases, patients and patients' relatives at the Da Nang Hospital in Da Nang, where a number of COVID-19 cases have been reported, according to the ministry.

The ministry also confirmed that two more COVID-19 patients had died, bringing the death toll in the country to 23 as of Saturday, noting that both were over 60 years old and had underlying medical conditions.

A total of 437 patients have totally recovered from COVID-19 as of Saturday while there are nearly 115,900 people being quarantined and monitored in the country, according to the health ministry.

As part of the efforts to contain the spread of the epidemic, local authorities of Da Nang placed some of residence areas in its Hai Chau District under quarantine from Saturday to Aug. 29 with possible extension, Vietnam News Agency reported. Enditem
