Vietnam reports 14 new COVID-19 cases, total surpasses 1,000

HANOI, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam reported a total of 14 new cases of COVID-19 infection on Thursday, bringing its total confirmed cases to 1,007, with 25 deaths from the disease so far, according to its Ministry of Health.

Among them, two people, one Filipino and one Vietnamese, have recently entered Vietnam from abroad, said the ministry, noting that the Vietnamese man tested positive for COVID-19 while he was quarantining at home after the 14-day quarantine at a local hospital upon arrival.

Other cases included those reportedly in contact with people confirmed to be infected with COVID-19, a patient, a medical staff member and patients' caregivers at local hospitals in Vietnam's central city of Da Nang, according to the ministry.

Among the 1,007 confirmed cases in Vietnam as of Thursday, 666 are locally-transmitted ones, Vietnam News Agency reported.

Da Nang city has confirmed nearly 400 COVID-19 cases so far, making it the locality with the highest number of cases in Vietnam, according to the health ministry.

As many as 542 patients have totally recovered from the disease as of Thursday, with nearly 83,700 people being quarantined and monitored in the country, according to the ministry. Enditem
