Jordan reports 77 new coronavirus cases

AMMAN, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Tuesday reported 77 new cases of coronavirus, the highest daily increasing number of cases since the spread of the pandemic in the country, bringing the tally of cases to 1,716 with 14 deaths.

A total of 10,569 random virus tests were conducted on Tuesday, bringing the total number of coronavirus tests since the beginning of the crisis to 763,137, Health Minister Saad Jaber said at a press conference in Amman.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Media Affairs Amjad Adaileh said schools will open on Sept. 1.

The minister urged citizens to abide by health and safety instructions, expecting the number of coronavirus cases to increase in the next few days.

China has supported Jordan's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. On May 31, China donated a batch of medical supplies to Jordan to help combat the coronavirus. Enditem
