RAMALLAH, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Palestine on Saturday reported 417 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections in the Palestinian territories to 28,527.

In a press statement sent to Xinhua, the Palestinian Health Ministry said 352 cases were reported in the West Bank, 36 in East Jerusalem, and 29 in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, four fatalities were reported in the West Bank, three from the city of Hebron and one from Jericho city, raising the death toll to 164, while a total of 19,323 recoveries have been recorded, the ministry added.

The rate of recovery in Palestine has reached 67.7 percent since March 5, while the death rate was 0.5 percent, according to the ministry statement.

The Hamas, ruler of Gaza, declared on Saturday an extension of lockdown by 48 hours in the coastal enclave in a bid to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
