TOKYO, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks rose sharply Monday morning following U.S. shares advancing late last week, with solid industrial output data for July raising hopes for Japan's economic recovery from the pandemic.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 446.82 points, or 1.95 percent, from Friday to 23,329.47.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 29.40 points, or 1.83 percent, at 1,634.27.
Wholesale, air transportation and real estate issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break. Enditem
