BEIJING, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELHI -- India has conducted more than 50 million COVID-19 samples tests in its fight against the pandemic, said a statement issued by the health ministry Tuesday.

"India has come a long way from conducting just one test from the lab at National Institute of Virology, Pune, in January 2020 to 50,650,128 today. 1,098,621 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours testifying the enlarged testing capacity in the country," said the statement.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore's Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 47 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 57,091.

Of the new cases, one is an imported case, and the rest are linked with the dormitories of foreign workers.

TEHRAN -- The total number of COVID-19 cases confirmed in Iran reached 391,112 on Tuesday, after an overnight registration of 2,302 new infections, official news agency IRNA reported.

Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, said at her daily briefing 132 people died in the past 24 hours of the novel coronavirus, taking the total death toll to 22,542 in the country.

MINSK -- Belarus reported 177 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking its total to 73,208, according to the country's health ministry.

There have been 33 new recoveries in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 71,916, the ministry added.

HANOI -- Vietnam reported five new cases of COVID-19 infection on Tuesday, bringing its total confirmed cases to 1,054, with 35 deaths from the disease so far, according to its Ministry of Health.

The five new cases have recently entered Vietnam from abroad and were quarantined upon arrival, said the ministry, noting that their ages range from 2 to 51.

NUR-SULTAN -- Local authorities in Kazakhstan's Baikonur city, where the Baikonur cosmodrome is located, announced Tuesday an extention of the city's COVID-19 quarantine measures till Sept. 20.

According to a statement from the city's authorities, large-scale public and family gatherings are banned, while the use of dance floors has been prohibited. Entry of citizens invited by locals into the city has also been banned.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 3,046 within one day to 200,035, with the death toll adding by 100 to 8,230, the health ministry said on Tuesday.

According to the ministry, 2,306 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 142,958.

NEW DELHI -- The recovery rate of India's COVID-19 patients increased to 77.65 percent on Tuesday, the country's health ministry said.

"Till now, 3,323,950 patients have been cured and 883,697 patients are under active medical supervision," the ministry said. "The recovery rate is now 77.65 percent."

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong announced Tuesday further relaxation of social distancing measures as new confirmed cases of COVID-19 dropped to the lowest in more than two months.

Starting Friday, the cap on group gatherings will be loosened to four people from two for seven days and the number of diners allowed to sit together at restaurants will also be raised to four, Sophia Chan, secretary for food and health of the government of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), said at a press briefing Tuesday noon.

HARARE -- The Zimbabwe government has relaxed COVID-19 regulations on inbound travelers, with those testing negative 48 hours before their return being allowed to self-quarantine at home.

The new measures, which became effective last Friday, also allow those without certificates to go home if they test negative at quarantine centers, information minister Monica Mutsvangwa said.

MANILA -- The number of confirmed coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines surged to 241,987 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 3,281 new daily cases on Tuesday.

The DOH said that the number of recoveries also rose to 185,178 after it reported 286 more patients have survived the disease.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally continues to rise sharply even as 75,809 new cases were detected during the past 24 hours, taking the total figure to 4,280,422, showed the latest data released by the federal health ministry on Tuesday.
