TOKYO, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Monday as expectations for the continuation of the government's economic policies by the new Japanese leader to be selected later in the day made for a conciliatory market mood.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 146.24 points, or 0.62 percent, from Friday to 23,552.73.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 11.62 points, or 0.71 percent, at 1,648.26.
Pulp and paper, insurance and air transportation issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
