NEW YORK, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks opened higher on Tuesday, on track for the second day of gains after a turbulent week.

Market sentiment got a boost after data showed China's economic recovery continued picking up steam last month, with major economic indicators further improving as the country's efforts to boost growth amid the COVID-19 slowdown gradually paid off.

China's retail sales of consumer goods, a major indicator of consumption growth, expanded for the first time this year, rising 0.5 percent year on year in August, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics released on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the nation's industrial output increased 5.6 percent year on year in August, accelerating from the rise of 4.8 percent registered in July.

Wall Street also paid close attention to the U.S. Federal Reserve's two-day policy meeting starting from Tuesday.

U.S. equities rebounded noticeably on Monday after a wild week that saw the Nasdaq log its worst weekly performance since March. Enditem
