Myanmar's COVID-19 death toll rises to 39, 3,636 infections in total

YANGON, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar confirmed four new deaths, bringing the death toll to 39 in total on Wednesday morning, said a daily release from the Health and Sports Ministry.

Four more COVID-19 patients with underlying diseases died of acute respiratory failure, the release said.

Meanwhile, 134 more patient tested positive for COVID-19 and the number of infections reached 3,636 on Wednesday morning.

Myanmar reported its first two confirmed cases on March 23 this year and 872 patients have recovered from the disease in nearly six months.

Locally transmitted cases have been increasing in number in the country, especially in Yangon region during the second wave of the outbreak starting Aug. 16. Enditem
