YANGON, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Myanmar government has so far repatriated 15,453 citizens stranded in foreign countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic, said the Foreign Affairs Ministry late Thursday.
Due to the suspension of international commercial flights during the pandemic, the government has been bringing back its citizens stranded in foreign countries by relief flights or special flights.
A total of 56 Myanmar nationals including seamen stranded in Vietnam arrived home on a relief flight late Thursday.
Under the management of the respective ministries and the Yangon Region government, the returnees will be put under 14-day facility quarantine and 7-day home quarantine upon their arrivals.
As part of containment measures against COVID-19, the Myanmar government has extended the effective period of temporary entry restrictions for incoming visitors and suspension of operating international air services until Sept. 30.
As of Friday morning, 4,299 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported with 61 deaths in Myanmar, according to latest figures from the Health and Sports Ministry. Enditem
