BEIJING, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

TEHRAN -- Iranian's Ministry of Health and Medical Education confirmed on Sunday 3,097 overnight infections to a total of 422,140 cases so far.

Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the Ministry, said at her daily briefing 1,272 new patients have been hospitalized in the past 24 hours, the ministry's website reported.

LONDON -- British Health Secretary Matt Hancock said Sunday that Britain is facing a "tipping point" regarding the coronavirus pandemic and more restrictions are possible to cope with the spread of virus.

"We face a choice. If everybody follows the rules -- and we'll be increasingly stringent on the people who are not following the rules -- then we can avoid further national lockdowns," Hancock told the BBC.

TUNIS -- Tunisia recorded Sunday its highest daily new coronavirus cases since the outbreak in the country on March 2, by reporting 625 new COVID-19 infections, said Tunisian Ministry of Health.

It said in a statement that the total number of confirmed cases in Tunisia reached 9,736.

GUANGZHOU -- Ethiopian Airlines flight ET3634, loaded with 95 tonnes of cargo, took off from an airport in Shenzhen City, south China's Guangdong Province, on Sunday, marking the opening of the brand-new Shenzhen-Dubai-Addis Ababa freight route.

As the air route connects the three logistics hubs in Asia, the Middle East and Africa, the frequency of the freight flight scheduled twice a week will increase according to the cargo transport demand, said the operator.

YANGON -- Myanmar reported 11 more COVID-19 deaths on Sunday night, bringing the death toll from the disease in the country to 92 in total, according to a press release from the Health and Sports Ministry.

A total of 278 more confirmed COVID-19 cases were also reported in the country on Sunday night, bringing the tally to 5,541, the release said.

KATHMANDU -- Nearly half of the COVID-19 patients in Nepal are staying in home isolation with the Nepali government prioritizing such facilities over hospitals for the asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic COVID-19 cases, Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population said.

According to the data from the ministry, there are a total of 17,478 active COVID-19 cases in Nepal as of Sunday. Of them, 8,407 patients, or about 48 percent of total active cases, have stayed in home isolation. Enditem
