VIENTIANE, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Lao Ministry of Health urged authorities and people countrywide to stay vigilant in protecting themselves from COVID-19.

People countrywide must continue their efforts in implementing preventive measures and adapt to the new normal to stop the spread of the virus, Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Diseases Control under the Lao Ministry of Health Latsamy Vongkhamsao said in a press conference on Monday.

The National Taskforce Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control urged everyone to continue to regularly wash their hands with soap, and to wear a face mask when going outside.

People must also continue to practice social distancing, said Latsamy.

As of Monday, Laos has tested 47,589 suspected cases with 23 cases tested positive, and 22 patients have recovered.
