BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

TEHRAN -- Iran reported 3,341 new COVID-19 patients overnight, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 425,481 on Monday, according to Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

The pandemic has so far claimed 24,478 lives in Iran, up by 177 in the past 24 hours, Lari said during her daily briefing.

BEIJING -- Stomach problems such as diarrhea and vomiting could be crucial COVID-19 symptoms among children and should be added in COVID-19 testing criteria which for now commonly include fever, cough and loss in sense of smell or taste, according to a recent study from Queen's University Belfast.

The study recruited 992 healthy children between two and 15 years old across Britain, testing their COVID-19 antibodies and collecting data about their symptoms.

CHONGQING -- An aircraft carrying 74 Chinese students left southwest China's Chongqing Municipality early Monday for Manchester, Britain.

Hainan Airlines flight HU7953 took off at 1 a.m. from the Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, becoming the first charter flight operated by Chinese airlines for students returning abroad for school resumption after the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.

MOSCOW -- Russia has registered 6,196 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its total to 1,109,595, the country's COVID-19 response center said in a statement Monday.

Meanwhile, 71 new deaths were reported, taking the death toll to 19,489, it said.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 4,176 within one day to 248,852, with the death toll adding by 124 to 9,677, the Health Ministry said on Monday.

According to the ministry, 3,470 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 180,797.

YINCHUAN -- A batch of medical supplies donated to Fayoum, Egypt, by the local government of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region left Yinchuan, the regional capital, on Monday.

The medical supplies, including 30,000 medical masks and 1,000 medical protective suits, will help the local fight against COVID-19 in Fayoum, said Ningxia's foreign affairs office. Enditem
