TOKYO, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks extended losses Wednesday morning as coronavirus cases in some European countries spiked markedly amid geopolitical friction threatening to hamper economic recovery from the pandemic.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 139.97 points, or 0.60 percent, from Friday to 23,220.33.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 8.94 points, or 0.54 percent, at 1,637.48.
