ABUJA, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria's northeastern state of Taraba have so far recorded over 100 cases of kidnapping, an official said on Thursday, as the government rolls out measures to end the ugly trend.
Governor Darius Ishaku told reporters that government data have shown that the state recorded the incidents between January and September.
In September alone, 30 cases of kidnapping were recorded in the state, Ishaku said.
According to him, the government had taken a number of measures to tackle the challenge, including mobilizing troops and other security personnel for special training to halt the crime.
The military, he said, would tackle the challenge and restore normalcy to the crisis areas.
Kidnapping and gunmen attacks frequently hit the headlines in the most populous African country. Both foreigners and high-profile Nigerians are usually targeted by assailants, who in most cases seek ransom in exchange for their release.
