Sink hole in Florida eats a house near Disney World
THIRTY tourists fled when a 50ft-wide sink hole swallowed up a holiday villa near Disney World in Florida.
A woman and child had to escape through a window after their door frame collapsed, blocking their exit as the building swayed and cracked.
Guests were woken at around 11.30pm by a popping sound and windows breaking.
A security guard ordered everyone out of the three-storey villa at Summer Bay Resort, Clermont, about six miles from the famous theme parks.
Fire crews evacuated other guests from neighbouring buildings amid fears they too could collapse.
Witness Luis Perez said his lights went off at 11.30pm. He walked out to report it to the resort’s office and saw firemen and police.
He said: “You could see the building leaning and you could see a big crack at the base of the building.”
Everyone got out safely before the crater opened.
Sink holes — common in Florida — happen when rock dissolves below the ground, causing the surface to eventually give way.
In February, 36-year-old Jeff Bush was killed when one opened beneath his home in Tampa. His body has never been recovered.
