A BUDDING City high-flyer collapsed and died after working three consecutive 21-HOUR days as an intern at a top bank.
Colleagues said Moritz Erhardt, 21, was toiling from 9am to 6am — downing caffeine drinks to stay awake.
He was among hundreds of summer interns battling to win a handful of big-money finance jobs in London’s Square Mile.
Workplace ... Bank of America Merrill Lynch's London HQ
Caffeine ... no substitute for rest
The business student, from Germany, had a seizure last Thursday after returning from work at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
A room-mate found his body in their hall of residence in Hackney, East London.
A post-mortem revealed he died from epilepsy. Police said the death was not suspicious.
A banking source said: “He was pulling all-nighters at the office.
People in the banking community are outraged because these banks work their interns so hard.”
BAML called Moritz’s death “deeply shocking”, but refused to comment on his work hours.
