You can stand under my umbrella!

    THANK goodness Rihanna had her trusty umbrella on hand when she stepped out in rainy New York.

    The pop beauty, who catapulted to superstardom with her hit Umbrella in 2007, was forced to take shelter from a downpour in the US city this week.

    The 25-year-old singer wore an unusual jersey dress with high top trainers showing off her long legs.

    She complemented her dress with red lips and a black beanie hat.

    But the sporty dress, which from the front looked like a t shirt but sported a long train at the back, proved an impractical choice for the weather as she struggled to keep the back of the red tee out of puddles.

    The Bajan superstar finally managed to hail a cab to escape from the shower, and later wore the dress to dinner.

    The chart topper is no stranger to making strange fashion statements.

    Last month she stepped out sporting an unsightly spiky mullet.
