BENEDICT Cumberbatch has reportedly signed up for the next Star Wars film.
The Sherlock actor will reunite with his Star Trek Into Darkness director JJ Abrams on the upcoming sci-fi film, according to website rumours.
It is not known what role the 37-year-old would play in the Lucasfilm production and so far the plot has been kept secret.
The British star recently pulled out of Guillermo del Toro’s horror movie Crimson Peak – which is set to be in production at the same time.
However, sources denied his exit was due to another project.
Previous role ... in Star Trek, which was also directed by JJ Abrams
Cumberbatch previously admitted that he was a Star Wars fan as a child.
“I really, really loved those films and I always wanted to be Han Solo. Everything Harrison Ford did I just thought was the coolest thing ever.”
Cumberbatch is the latest in a line of A-listers linked to the film.
Ryan Gosling, Zac Efron and Leonardo DiCaprio are also said to have met with Disney to discuss parts in the film.
Star Wars Episode 7 is due out in 2015.
