Vietnamese PM to attend summits, visit South Korea

HANOI, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc will attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-South Korea commemorative summit, the first Mekong-South Korea summit and pay an official visit to South Korea from Nov. 24-28, Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang said on Thursday.

The ASEAN-South Korea commemorative summit, which will take place from Nov. 25-26, is to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the dialogue partnership between ASEAN and South Korea, Hang said, adding that this is an opportunity for ASEAN and South Korea's leaders to review the cooperation in the past 30 years, and to promote the orientation and strategic cooperation for the next 30 years.

Meanwhile, the first Mekong-South Korea summit, slated for Nov. 27 involving five Southeast Asian countries, namely Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, will discuss directions for cooperation in the new phase.

As part of his official visit to South Korea, the Vietnamese leader is scheduled to hold talks with South Korean President Moon Jae-in and meet with South Korean national assembly speaker and prime minister, besides other activities, Hang said.
