BEIJING, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- An interactive exhibition on the imperial examination system, or Keju in Chinese, has opened in Beijing.

From the Sui to Qing Dynasties, the system was used to educate and select candidate officials in China's civil service for more than 1,300 years.

Simulated examination rooms and demonstrations were built with modern technologies to help visitors experience different stages of the examination along with the storylines of various participants.

For example, facial recognition is now part of the security check before the exam and AR technology is being used to recreate the scene where participants pray for a blessing from Confucius, the icon of culture and education in China.

Developed by a cultural entity affiliated to the Palace Museum, the exhibition in Wangfujing commercial street also features abundant cultural details based on extensive research.

The exhibition will last until Jan. 5, 2020 before starting a tour across the country.
