WUHAN, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- There is no cross-infection in public-facility-turned makeshift hospitals in virus-hit Wuhan, Wang Chen, a Chinese respiratory expert, told Xinhua Saturday.

Since the patients in the hospitals are all confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus with the same infection, there are no such problems of cross-infection, said Wang, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.

Wuhan, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak, has been transforming public venues including exhibition centers and sports venues into temporary hospitals since Feb. 3.

The hospitals, which can be built in a short period of time, have a large capacity of treating patients with mild symptoms, and play an important role in isolating the source of infection and cutting off the routes of infection during epidemic prevention, Wang added.
