Militants attacks kill 8 Afghan security personnel in Logar province

PUL-E-ALAM, Afghanistan, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Militants attacks on a security checkpoint in Afghanistan's eastern Logar province left eight security personnel dead on Sunday, provincial government spokesman Didar Ahmad Lawang said.

According to the official, a group of Taliban insurgents stormed a security checkpoint in Mohammad Agha district in the wee hours of Sunday, killing eight security personnel and wounding five others.

The official, however, didn't specify if the victims were police or army soldiers, saying the targeted checkpoint was close to the Aynak copper mine.

Taliban militants have not made comments yet. Enditem
