TOKYO, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Monday as geopolitical concerns pushed the safe haven yen higher against the U.S. dollar which soured the market mood and dragged exporters and the broader market lower.

As of 9:15 a.m,, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 67.76 points, or 0.37 percent, from Friday to 18,267.87.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 2.66 points, or 0.18 percent, to 1,456.41.

Early issues that notably lost ground comprised iron and steel, nonferrous metal and transportation equipment-linked stocks.
