ISLAMABAD, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Officials in Pakistan's Balochistan province said on Friday that at least one civilian was killed and 17 others were injured in an "unprovoked firing" from the Afghan side.

It has been unclear that how the firing was started in the early morning and continued for hours. The shelling was in the Pakistani areas in Chamman, a border town, security officials told local media.

Those injured include two women and six children. All the injured were shifted to a hospital by ambulances of the Frontier Corps which guard the Pakistani border with Afghanistan.

The incident happened days after two high-level Pakistani delegations of officials visited Afghanistan for discussions on security issues, focusing on border management.

Pakistan insists on effective border security so as to check illegal movement of militants.
