DUBAI, May 13 (Xinhua) -- A fire that erupted on Saturday morning on a ship carrying petroleum substances docked at a port in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE) was only extinguished by fire brigades in the afternoon, but left one ship worker killed and four injured, UAE daily Gulf news reported.

Sixteen workers were evacuated safely. The cause of the fire which broke out before 6 am at Sharjah's Al Hamriyah port remained unknown.

Footage shown on Gulf News website shows sky-high thick black smoke arising from the wrecked ship. Fire brigades were able to prevent the flames from spreading to neighboring ships.

While the incident caused an oil spill, civil defense managed to control the oil spill and avoided further pollution, said the report.
