WASHINGTON, May 18 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Department of Defense on Thursday showcased more than 80 exhibits of technical innovation, which a Pentagon official said will help "change games."

"We are changing games, we are changing games on our terms," James MacStravic, a senior Pentagon official, said during the Lab Day event, a biennial event aimed at promoting innovation in the U.S. military sector.P The Pentagon's technological advantage helps "maintain U.S. long-term technological superiority in all domains," MacStravic, who is the undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics, said.

Across the Pentagon courtyard, 63 military research centers displayed over 80 of their latest gadgets or systems, from sophisticated hardware such as nano-satellites to consumable products such as meal packs.

"The defense laboratory enterprise helps meet today's urgent operational needs while ensuring decisive overmatch for the force of the future," Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Mary Miller said.

A noticeable trend at the exhibition is the unmanned technology. For example, robotic vehicles are made or optimized to perform an array of tasks including bomb removal or weight lifting; robotic arms are designed to enter spaces too small for humans to gather visual information; and drones are mounted with more technologies than ever.

On the higher end, rail guns and laser weapons are also eye-catching as the Navy is said to have invested heavily to boost firepower on its battleships.
