KIEV, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak and his Georgian counterpart Levan Izoria held talks in Georgian capital Tbilisi on Wednesday and both agreed to promote bilateral military ties.

According to a statement by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Poltorak told Izoria that Ukraine hopes to deepen cooperation with Georgia in the defense sector and exchange experience in implementing military reforms.

"We need to share experiences and information, and I fully support the initiative for pushing forward military and technical cooperation," Poltorak was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, Izoria said his country is interested in developing strategic partnership with Ukraine in the military sector.

"We would like to further continue our close relationship, and we have to remember that our people are maintaining the friendship for thousands of years," Izoria said.

Poltorak arrived in Tbilisi on Tuesday for a two-day official visit.
