ANKARA, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Turkish military and security forces on Friday killed 23 Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) members in northern Iraq and southeastern Turkey, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

Nine terrorists were killed in the Zap area and five in the Avasin-Basyan area of northern Iraq during the airstrikes launched by Turkish air forces on the PKK camps, the General Staff announced in a statement.

On the same day, the security forces also killed nine PKK members in southeastern Turkey.

According to the statement released by the Hakkari Governor's Office, airstrikes killed five terrorists in the Mt. Guven area of Cukurca.

Meanwhile, Turkish army killed four PKK militants in the Beytussebap district of Sirnak province, the Governor's office said.

Security forces also launched a counter-terrorism operation in the southeastern Diyarbakir province on Thursday. One suspected PKK terrorist and one collaborator, said to be carrying the terrorist in a vehicle, were arrested.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU, resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015 after a brief reconciliation period.
