DAR ES SALAAM, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Germany on Friday committed two cooperation grants amounting to 35 million euros to the East African Community (EAC) for the implementation of health and education programs.

A statement by the German Embassy in Tanzania said the German Ambassador to Tanzania, Egon Kochanke, handed over the commitment note to the EAC Secretary General Liberat Mfumukeko in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam.

"Germany will provide 30 million euros for the procurement of vaccines for children in the EAC against various diseases," said the statement

The statement said a further 5 million euros will be granted for a new program to finance scholarships for postgraduates in the EAC.

"The program thus aims at strengthening the younger academic generation in becoming catalysts for further regional integration," said the statement.
