RAMALLAH, June 20 (Xinhua) -- A young Palestinian man was killed on Tuesday afternoon near an Israeli army road barrier close to the West Bank city of Ramallah, medical officials said.
The Palestinian Health Ministry in the West Bank said in an emailed press statement that the young man was killed after Israeli soldiers stationed at Jabba'a checkpoint of the Israeli army near the city.
The Israeli army has meanwhile said the young man was shot after he tried to stab one of the soldiers at the checkpoint.
Three Palestinians were killed last Friday by Israeli police forces in east Jerusalem after carrying out two attacks; one was a stabbing attack and the other was a shooting one. An Israeli female soldier was killed in the attacks.
Since October 2015, tension has been growing up between Israel and the Palestinians. According to official figures, 372 Palestinians, two Jordanians and 48 Israelis were killed during the period.
