BEIJING, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Sixty-two senior officials appointed by the State Council pledged loyalty to the constitution on Monday at a ceremony overseen by Premier Li Keqiang.

The officials were appointed between September 2016 and May 2017.

Yang Jing, state councilor and secretary-general of the State Council, opened the ceremony.

After the oath was taken, Li told the officials to perform their duties conscientiously and honestly.

Vice premiers Zhang Gaoli, Liu Yandong, Wang Yang and Ma Kai, State councilors Chang Wanquan and Wang Yong, as well as some leading officials of State Council departments, were present at the ceremony.

In July 2015, China decided that officials at all levels in government, courts and procuratorates should take a public oath of allegiance to the constitution when they assume office.
