DHAKA, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Millions of Bangladeshis in the past 2016-17 fiscal year (July 2016-June 2017) remitted home nearly 13 billion U.S. dollars, a central bank official said Thursday.

"The flow of inward remittances in the 2016-17 financial year fell about 14.47 percent to 12,769.45 million dollars," the Bangladesh Bank (BB) official told Xinhua.

The official who did not like to be named said the decrease in total inflow of remittance were due mainly to sluggish overseas employment in some Middle Eastern countries and devaluation of their currencies against the dollar.

According to the official, millions of non-resident Bangladeshis remitted home in June 1.21 billion dollars.

Overseas Bangladeshis in June last year sent home 1.47 billion dollars, he said.

The inflow remittances from nearly 10 million Bangladeshis, living and working in over 100 countries, in the last 2015-16 financial year fell about 2.55 percent to 14.93 billion dollars.
