CAIRO, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Egypt and Argentina on Sunday discussed ways to boost bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as they celebrated the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.

Meeting with visiting Argentine Vice President Gabriela Michetti, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi highlighted the positive outcome of his meeting with his Argentine counterpart Mauricio Macri last year on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in China.

Michetti's visit to Cairo coincides with the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Egypt and Argentina.

Sisi also emphasized the importance of activating the economic and commercial committee between the two countries to further discuss bilateral economic cooperation.

Egypt seeks to open new export markets to limit growing budget deficit, inflation, and foreign and domestic debts, as it is implementing painful economic reforms after suffering from an economic recession in the past years.

Michetti welcomed the economic and trade cooperation with Egypt in various fields, while commending Egypt's economic reform plan.

She also noted that her country had a similar experience in achieving progress in comprehensive development over the past years.

Argentina is part of a free trade agreement between Egypt and Mercosur, a Latin American sub-regional common market including Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. With the agreement, Egypt is expected to boost its experts to Latin American markets.
