BERLIN, July 17 (Xinhua) -- German police on Monday confirmed that they were investigating a video showing dozens of people displaying the Hitler salute at a music festival in Themar in Thuringia over the weekend, local media reported.

Video footage shows festival goers appear to chant "Heil", a reference to the Nazi greeting "Sieg Heil." The festival was named as "rock against foreign domination."

The displaying of Nazi symbols and Hitler-style salute is illegal in Germany, as is the denial of the Holocaust and glorifying the Nazi era, and violators will be sentenced to six month in prison.

German news agency DPA quoted Thuringia's Interior Ministry as saying that the concert in the town of Themar led to six detentions. It lists intimidation, bodily harm and violation of weapons laws as crimes committed during the event.

A total of 46 crimes were recorded at the festival, at which around 6,000 people turned up, the police said.
