Indonesia, Laos agree to expand bilateral ties

JAKARTA, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian and Lao foreign ministers met here on Thursday, discussing ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation into wider arrays.

Lao Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith visited Indonesia for the 5th Lao-Indonesian Joint Cooperation for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) to commemorate the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.

Besides discussing ties in economy, trade and investment, Saleumxay and his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi also identified sectors that can be further explored to expand cooperation between the two nations.

Among the potential sectors identified by the two ministers were security and defense, industry, education, social and culture, agriculture, tourism, sports as well as inter-parliamentary cooperation.

The Indonesian-Lao trade reached 10.071 million U.S. dollars last year, from 8.55 million U.S. dollars in 2015, according to the Indonesian Foreign Ministry.
