Over 6,000 gems, jade lots put on sale at Myanmar Gems Emporium

YANGON, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- A total of 6,887 gems and jade lots including 326 gems lots are being put on sale at the 54th Myanmar Gems Emporium which began in Nay Pyi Taw Wednesday.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, the emporium will last until August 11.

Rough jade and gems, cut and polished gemstone, jewelries, jade carvings and gemstone pictures will be sold in euro currency by open tender system, said the Gems Emporium Central Committee.

About 4,800 merchants including 3,400 foreign buyers are attending the emporium.

Myanmar gems emporium has been held annually since 1964 and it is the third during the new government.

Meanwhile, aimed at promoting cooperation within gems and jewelry industry and relationship between ASEAN member states and partner countries and regions, Myanmar Gems and Jewelry's Day and the 6th ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) plus 8 Gems and Jewelry Presidents' Summit will also be held in Nay Pyi Taw in the same month.
