Top Vietnamese swimmer eyes at least 8 golds at SEA Games

HANOI, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's top woman swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien is targeting at least 8 golds at the approaching 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Malaysia, the Vietnam Aquatic Sports Association said on Wednesday.

Vietnam's national swimming team, which have set a target of securing 10 golds at the coming SEA Games, are expected to bag 11-13 golds.

Besides Anh Vien, who won 8 golds and set 8 records at the previous SEA Games, her compatriots, including Hoang Quy Phuoc, Nguyen Diep Phuong Tram, Tran Duy Khoi and Lam Quang Nhat, are expected to grab golds.

On Aug. 16, Vietnam's 681-member sport delegation, including over 400 athletes, will go to Malaysia to compete at all 32 sport events, hoping to gain over 60 golds to be in the top three at the regional tournament, according to the country's General Department of Sports and Physical Training.

At the previous SEA Games in 2015 in Singapore, Vietnam ranked the third with 73 golds, 53 silvers and 60 bronze.
