Partial lunar eclipse to be visible tonight in India

NEW DELHI, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- A partial lunar eclipse will be visible Monday across India, officials said.

"The eclipse will start at around 10:52 p.m. local time (1722 GMT) and will continue till 12:48 a.m. local time (0718 GMT)," a senior official Birla Planetarium in Kolkata told media.

According to researchers the full moon will enter the earth's shadow in space and create a spectacular celestial phenomenon, commonly known as partial lunar eclipse.

"This will be the first properly visible lunar eclipse this year," the officials said. "The partial lunar eclipse this time would be visible from the whole of Asia and Australia and most parts of Europe and Africa."

The next lunar eclipse according to officials would be on January 31 next year and it will also be visible from all parts of the Indian sub-continent.
