BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- The People's Daily, the flagship newspaper of the Communist Party of China (CPC), has hailed the progress made in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region over the past 70 years and called for a more brilliant yet future for the northern border region.
"Inner Mongolia is enjoying the best and fastest development since the autonomous region was founded," says an editorial to be published by the newspaper on Tuesday.
The region's economic structure has become more balanced, the people of the region are leading better lives, ethnic unity is the hallmark of the region and the environment is constantly improving, the editorial notes.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, which is the country's first ever ethnic autonomous region at the provincial level established under the leadership of the CPC in the midst of the War of Liberation.
"Inner Mongolia's 70-year history has proven that the path with Chinese characteristics to solve ethnic issues is correct and the regional ethnic autonomy system, which boasts huge superiority and vitality, serves as the institutional guarantee for this correct path," it says.
Inner Mongolia faces onerous tasks as China endeavors to build a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way enters the decisive stage, it says.
The newspaper calls on people from all ethnic groups in Inner Mongolia to protect the border of the country and the spiritual home for the ethnic groups in the region, have a broader vision in terms of development, and to uphold equality and unity to create better lives.
