YANGON, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar President U Htin Kyaw and visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks on bilateral cooperation shortly after the latter's arrival in Nay Pyi Taw Tuesday evening, the Myanmar News Agency reported Wednesday.
The two leaders' discussed effective implementation of the current projects between the two countries, expressing mutual support to each other at the regional and international fora and fighting terrorism.
Speaking at a welcoming dinner, U Htin Kyaw thanked the Indian government for all the support and assistance extended to Myanmar for the country's socio-economic development, infrastructural development and capacity building.
The president appreciated India's Act East Policy and Neighborhood First Policy, saying that these policies play an instrumental role in cementing not only the existing friendly relations but also expanding ASEAN-India dialogue relations.
Modi pledged to strengthen the friendly bilateral relations and make further cooperation in the infrastructure, communications, health and capacity building sectors, while expressing appreciation to the efforts of Myanmar for achieving peace in the country.
Modi is also expected to hold talks with State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi in the capital and deliver a speech at Yangon's Thuwunna Stadium on Wednesday.
During his three-day stay in Myanmar, the Indian prime minister will also visit the ancient central city of Bagan.
