NEW DELHI, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- At least six people including a child were killed and 11 others suffered burn injuries after a fire broke out in India's western state of Maharashtra, police said Thursday.

The fire broke out late Wednesday night in Vile Parle in Juhu area of Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra.

"The deceased include five laborers and a child," a police official said. "Eleven people who suffered burn injuries were admitted to a nearby hospital and of them the condition of eight people was stated to be critical by doctors."

Local officials quoted eyewitnesses as saying that they heard sound of a cooking gas cylinder blast ahead of the fire engulfing part of the building.

Police said they were trying to ascertain the actual cause of the blast that started from the ground floor of the 13-story building.
