OSLO, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The reconstruction of a 16th-century boat is under way in Norway's capital city Oslo and shall be ready for sailing by summer 2019, newspaper Aftenposten reported Sunday.

This will be a true copy of a freight boat that was made in early 16th century and was dug up six years ago at the location of Oslo Bus Terminal.

The reconstruction started in the Norwegian Maritime Museum. In two years it will be possible to sail around the city in this medieval boat and test out how good the boat builders were in the Middle Ages.

The boat will be launched by the water surface of Vannspeilet in the city centre, for this is where Oslo once sprouted as a harbour city.

This is part of the project "Middle Age belt" of the city's Agency for Cultural Affairs, with the goal to clearly present Oslo as a Medieval city in the Old Town area.
