BAGHDAD, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- One U.S.-led coalition soldier was killed and another wounded in a bomb explosion in Iraq, the U.S. military said on Monday.

"One coalition service member was killed and another was injured when an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) struck their vehicle on Sunday in Iraq," the coalition fighting the Islamic State (IS) group said in a statement.

"The names and circumstances surrounding the incident are being held pending notification of next of kin," the statement said without giving further details about the nationality of the killed and wounded soldiers.

The U.S. military announcement came as thousands of U.S. troops are participating in the U.S.-led coalition that included the United States, Canada and several NATO countries, to fight against IS group in Iraq and Syria.

The troops are mainly providing training and logistic support to the Iraqi forces, in addition to airstrikes by the international coalition aircraft.
